Official Opening of the Age Friendly Park in Clarenville

On Wednesday, October 29 Clarenville officially opened the Age-Friendly Park on Gladney Street. This park is located in proximity to senior's reseidences as well as the Clarenville Middle and High School. It contains walking trails, (wheelchair accessible) park benches, green spaces, gazebos, a tobogganing hill, and a community garden. Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, joined the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and MHA for Trinity North, and community leaders and partners, cut the ribbon to mark the completion of a project that has been three years in the making.

An age-friendly park, complete with walking trails, benches, green spaces, gazebos, a tobogganing hill, and a community garden was officially opened in Clarenville today by the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development.

The Clarenville Age-Friendly Park is a joint project, supported by the provincial and municipal levels of government, the Random Age-Friendly Community Board, and local community partners.
It was established to create a space where residents and visitors can engage in recreational activities, or just relax in an environment that is designed to appeal to all ages.

The newly-established Department of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development was created, in

part, to bring more focus to government-wide efforts to promote physical activity and wellness initiatives that are inclusive to citizens of all ages.

Boonie's Story - The Fantastic response to Mr. Lethbridge's Challenge to ALS

R alph Lethbridge is not your typical 71 year old Entrepreneur, Husband, Dad and Grandfather. He's what we call in Newfoundland & Labrador - a "Character". He is Boonie. Boonie Lethbridge is one of those characters that you will find throughout small town Canada. Boonie (as he is affectionately known) has been the go-to person to buy real, local Christmas trees in the Clarenville area since 1984. EVERYONE knows him and kids in particular love him because he bears a striking resemblance to Santa!! That's not the only resemblance - his heart is as big as Santa's too! His trade-mark white beard is the reason, and very few people remember seeing him without it.
