This last wreath was
laid in remembrance of those who served in the past and in honor of those who
serve today from this area. It is a representation for families who no longer
reside here, and on behalf of those who could not attend today.
Laying the final
wreath is Comrade Gunner Arthur Inkpen, assisted by Comrade Sergeant Lucy
Critch. Comrade Art is Branch 27’s oldest Veteran who served in multiple combat
zones during World War Two. Comrade Lucy is the Branch’s youngest Veteran to
have served in combat zones Bosnia and Afghanistan.
Comrade Art joined the
59th Newfoundland Regiment on 27 June 1940. He served in England,
France, Belgium, Holland and Germany as a Dispatch Rider with the 22nd
Battery. He was discharged on 18 December 1945, having served for 5 and half
years.
Comrade Lucy joined
the Canadian Forces on 23 September 1983. She served in Canada’s North Pole,
Bosnia, Afghanistan, and South East Asia as a Traffic Technician Loadmaster.
She retired on 26 July 2006 after 23 years of service.
